We have been watching Game of Thrones since its release and have been fans ever since. Our son knows some of the main characters and is a big fan of the dragons.
So when we chose to visit Croatia, we knew for sure that we had to stop at the main Game of Thrones filming locations in Dubrovnik and in Split.
Here are some of the sites we have been to in Dubrovnik (pinned on the google maps below, so you can easily find them on your trip).

Tips on visiting Dubrovnik
We visited all the sites listed in a day and a half because our kids were tired, however it is doable in a day.
Dubrovnik card
We bought the 1-day card online for 180 kunas per adult and thought it was a good deal as it covered:
- The city walls: 150 kunas per adult + 50 kunas for kids from 5 yo.
- Fort Lovrijenac: 30 kunas, or free if you show up your city walls tickets.
- The Rector’s palace: 100 kunas per adult and 25 kunas for kids. The ticket also covers entrance to other small musuems.
- Bus rides for 24 hours – one bus ticket costs 15 kunas, if you buy it in the bus or 12 kunas at the kiosk.
Our kids being under 7, we didn’t have to pay the 1-day card for them as you can use one card for one adult and one kid. If your kids are older, you might need to check if it’s a good deal for you.
Visiting Lokrum
We took a ferry from Ploce Gate. The first one leaves at 9am, the second at 10 and then it’s every 30 minutes until 7 pm. The queue can get busy around lunch time so try to avoid this period.
The ticket costs 40 kunas.
Hotel Belvedere
The hotel was destroyed in 1991 and was abandoned since then. It was recently purchased by a Russian billionaire, Viktor Vekselberg, at a public auction, for more than 12 million euros. The billionaire is planning on building one of the most luxurious hotels in the World.
At the time of our visit, we didn’t see any work ongoing and people were still venturing inside.
- To get to Hotel Belvedere, you need to walk southeast from the Old Town. If you exit the old town by Ploce Gate, follow the coastline for about two kilometers, and you will find the hotel next to Sveti Jakov Beach.
- The walk from the Ploce Gate to Hotel Belvedere Dubrovnik takes about 30 minutes.
- You can also take an Uber that will drop you at Sveti Jakov church, then walk around the church until the end of the road. The ride from Pile Gate costs 60 kunas at a busy time.
